The efficiency of the right

I listen to call-in radio to escape my own left-wing echo chamber and something I’ve noticed today is a consistent message from callers: “we need to worry about Russia, not cake”.

That sentence in isolation is absolutely bonkers, but if you’ve been paying attention, the most recent Party Gate allegation—that the Prime Minister had a birthday party while millions were subject to lockdown measures—is actually being used to gaslight the whole thing.

I don’t really have a point, more an observation at how fast the right can pull their supporters in line. Probably even on-the-fence voters too (shy tories).

It should terrify you. It does me, because here on the left, by the time everyone has finished being performative, the right have already won.

Week 2 notes – 2022

Another week and I’m still on this weeknotes biz, so I’ll give myself a pat on the back. Yes, it might well only be week 2, but whatever.

I’ve spent the vast majority of my work week in meetings, which hasn’t been great, but, I have kicked off some absolute banger projects. Some super creative ones, too.

Most importantly, we are releasing the 3rd edition of Every Layout imminently (who knows it might even be live now) which features a brand new homepage that I’ve been promising to design for the past two years. We’re super happy with it.

A fun thing I did this week was take my eldest daughter stargazing because she won a science competition at school. The astronomer had a banger of a telescope which allowed us to see the moon in ridiculous detail. We also got a good look at Jupiter, which was ace.

I live in the middle of nowhere now, so I’m very tempted to get into astronomy with the little’n. We got her a little telescope for Christmas, so we’ve got everything we need already.

Last up, to fulfil my resolution to get down to 14st and maintain it, I started PT sessions this week. At the time of writing, I can no longer feel my arms as they are now actually made of jelly. This PT is really good. He’s not an in-your-face fitness dickhead, but a sports scientist. I’m super injury-prone, so that provides me with some comfort. He’s also going to get me set on a long-term and sustainable plan, so that should be good.

Anyway, the timer has run out, so with that, I bid you a good weekend!

Week 1 notes – 2022

I’m getting back on this week notes biz, because I think it’ll be good for the ol’ brain. I’m making it easier for myself now though and setting 5 minute timer before I start writing then publishing when it finishes (after a little proof-read). I reckon that’ll make me keep consistency and achieve my resolution of writing at least 40 week notes.

So with that in mind, let’s get started.

This week has been pretty full-on, being the first week back—even if I did only officially come back on Tuesday. I had a proper break over Xmas and new year. I broke up on the 16th of December, so nearly had 3 weeks off. I bloody needed it because I was completely done-in at the end of the year.

The main theme this week has been admin and re-desigining the homepage for Every Layout, which I’m hoping to get built out next week. We’re going to be releasing a 3rd edition of the book, so we wanted a proper landing page to sustain sales better, long term.

I also got a filling done this week. It was no where near as horrendous as I thought it would be. I’ve done pretty well to get to 34 without having any fillings—even if announcing that fact confused folks and made them think it was my birthday lol (it’s not ’til July 20th).

Next week I’m getting face deep in the Set Creative Studio website project too. Looking forward to doing that. Also, I start with my new personal trainer so might not even make it to the week notes.

Right, timer is up. Catch you next week.
